In my E46 when I first get going in the morning and get up to 50+ mph the steering wheel starts to vibrate and makes some noise but then after about a couple of miles it stops. Any ideas?

What year is the car and how many miles?

The fact that the vibration goes away says It might be the tires flat spotting after sitting a while

Otherwise, tie rod ends or ball joints

You must have 17-in or larger wheels, with the concurrent lower-profile tires.

    It's flat spotting, as noted.

One really pays a lot for the "looks" of large tires/low profile tires and in reality receives very little in return besides those looks.

    E46 with the shAkEs

....and it can be a sticking brake caliper - piston -
remove the wheels and inspect/service the pads/calipers/sliding pins
Might be seizing calipers - common with yer age and low mileage
because the pad wear is nil and the caliper doesn't move much - stays
    nearly in one position -

Another vote for control arm bushings.

Our '01 325xi wagon (5 speed baby, 75k mi.) just had hers replaced - about 70 bucks for the bushings and 200 labor = vibration gone.
