Hi folks - new BMW CCA member here. I have a 2000 Z3 2.3 roadster. I'm 2nd owner, car is choice. Last week, it started to stumble and misfire, threw a bunch of codes. Limp home mode to dealer, they diagnosed a dead DME, replacement cost ~ $2600. Ouch! I've found some used parts suppliers able to provide a DME that matches. What's the members experience with this sort of issue?
No experience with used DMEs but what happens to the odo mileage? Once aligned, does it take on the instrument cluster or the DME?
As long as you get the correct unit for your car it can be wiped and the oem software installed, then any custom stuff you are using. Gary at Vanguard Motors in SF knows a guy.
