So my 330ci 'vert has 105k on it and i have kind of a clunk when i turn the wheel back and forth. Real subtle and seems to resonate up through the column. The car has brand new control arms/bushings, struts/mounts, sway links and tie rods. Rack is original. I was curious based on preliminary searching, that my issue might be with this guy, the coupler/UJ:

Anyone else have to replace this as well around these miles? I've also heard of inner tie rods coming loose at the rack?

Yes I have replaced the steering column u joint on a couple cars for a clunk sound and sticking causing to much effort intermittently. But of course make sure all your suspension and tie rods are tight. Yes inner tie rods can also cause a clunking noise if they are loose. Also check ball joints on the control arms to make sure they are not loose either.
