I had the "service engine soon" light come on last week. I tried tightening the gas cap, and it went away for a day or two, but eventually returned. I dropped by the dealer and picked up a replacement gas cap on Thursday, and once the warning light went out, it has not returned again. $13 and worth every penny
I would tighten it and the light would go off for a day or two then come back on. I just figured that the gasket got a little leaky. I figured for $13 bucks for a new cap I would try replacing the cap before I went to a mechanic and got a code reading. I guessed 50/50 that it was either the cap or the oxygen sensors, so I'm glad it was only the cap. Here we are a few weeks later and no light since.
