I have a 2000 M5 and the keys have all lost their ability to charge. Dealerships tell me to fork over $200 for a new key but I am thinking I should just be able to replace the rechargable batteries in the keys. Is there an easy fix? Any experience out there with re-activating the keys for an old timer 2000 M5? Thx.

AFAIK, there is no fix but to buy one from the dealer. Someone should really find a way to fix these things. If you want to send me one I'd be happy to look into tearing it apart. If I can fix it, I'll fix yours free (you pay shipping) and start offering the service to others. PM me if interested.

It's a tricky procedure, but it can be done. You'll need to have experience working with small electronic components and soldering. The batteries must be mail ordered. Re-synchronizing the key with the car can take some effort.
