I have a 2002 E46 M3 with 178K miles. The navigation system now does not work. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can get a relatively inexpensive navigation system for my car, and how hard it is to replace the system by myself. Also, can I use a DVD system instead of my CD system, and where could I purchase same. I would love to have a working navigation system again since I would like to keep my car for at least 225K miles.
Honestly, a Garmin GPS unit will do the job just as good or possibly better than the BMW unit for a lot less $$$. I highly recommend the Garmin 205W, which does an excellent job for me. They should run anywhere between $200-250, depending on where you buy it, and you can get map updates every year if you wish, no CD's or DVD's to fiddle around with. The screen is nice and large (4.3" widescreen), the spoken directions are clear and concise (speaks almost any language known to man! select in menu - same for text) and Garmin has been proven to choose the best route out of any other GPS units. And by the way, you're my hero! Someone who actually USES his/her M3 and doesn't just keep it locked up in a garage all of its life!
