Hi, all. Just joined. My wife has a 1992 740iL. Recently the passenger side power seat back got "stuck" on the left side. The right side tries to move in both directions, but the left side doesn't move resulting in the seat back twisting. I'm hoping to be able to repair this myself, and am also hoping someone here will be able to shed some light on what may be causing this. Many thanks in advance. Shevie
Shevie, I had this problem with the drivers seat in our E-34 530i. The fix (from my local mechanic) is to locate the cable that drives the offending portion of the seat and shorten the sheathing/casing. There are at least three motors -- up/down, fore/aft, and recline. I disassembled the seat back and held each cable while running the motor. Once you have located the correct cable, disconnect from the motor. I used a one sided razor blade. Do not cut the flex cable, just take off approx 1/2" of the sheathing. Then reconnect. Should do the trick. Apparently, over time the cable wears and does not properly seat in the drive. I actually repaired all the connections while I had the seat appart. Works great and has been over two years. You can e-mail me at greeno15@comcast.net if you like for further input. Good Luck
That's great news and information, greeno. Thank you very much. We're moving this week, so it'll be a while before I get to it, but at least I know how now and know I don't need a king's ransom in special tools. Thanks again! Shevie
power seat and steering column Hi, I have a 2000 BMW 528i and the power seat on the driver's side and the telescopic steering column stopped working. The mechanic says it needs a new module. Can anyone tell me where this is located and is it difficult to repair yourself. thanks Yolanda
