Stephen, Where is the autocross being held on Lake Lanier Islands? My wife and I just spent three days there this past week and stayed at the Legacy Lodge, and I looked around various places on the islands but didn't see any location for a decent autocross setup. Also, the parking lot at the Legacy Lodge looked a bit small to me to handle the number of cars that turned out for the 2005 O'fest, for example, in Greensboro. I'm sure it can handle all the cars for those that are staying there, but adding the others that aren't staying on site, etc, and I'm just not sure there is enough room. I suppose there can be overflow parking along the road up to the lot and also along the road that leads to the back of the facility (if it doesn't violate fire code). Chuck
The lot is on the island. It's one of the waterpark parking lots. I think there will be plenty of room for cars parking. We did not have the entire parking lot in Greensboro.
Ah, yeah, missed that waterpark lot as there is tremendous construction (reconstruction) going on all around that part of the islands. It does look like a nice size lot from google earth. Re the lodge parking lot...I think it holds about 300 cars give or take a few. Do you think that is going to be big enough to handle O'fest? Are the main events being held at the Legacy Lodge? Overall, it is a MUCH smaller facility than the G'boro Sheraton. I'm having trouble fitting O'fest size (perhaps it will be a significantly smaller event this year than in 2005 though) on top of the Legacy Lodge.
Before we send out our next email to our Ofest09 mailing list. Let me remind those who visit the forum. Thursday and Friday driving schools are almost full. Currently, 8 spots left on Thursday and 6 on Friday before we go to a waitlist. Next to be full is the weekend followed by the Wednesday school. Note: Week packages go up after July 31.
Hey Steven What's the latest word on hotels? We have a couple members that said the Holiday Inn is full now too so they are still looking for a room. Will there be any more lodging recommendations coming out?
hotels? Apparently the two recommended hotels are booked. Will other recommendations be posted, or are we on our own to find a place to stay? Admittedly, I'm a OFest n00b, but I've found myself at a bit of a loss in terms of planning my attendance, understanding what exactly the various events are, and how to choose which ones I want to attend. Also the scheduling seemed a bit restrictive. I wanted to do the Car Control Clinic but also the BMW Plant Tour (organized group one) and those are on the same day (Wed). It was also not clear how Spouses can be registered. If the only option is a full registration or daily passes for a spouse, that seems silly (she's not a BMW nut like me and will likely spend at least some of the time doing other things in Atlanta).
Please feel free to give me a call and I'll be glad to go over the Oktobefest schedule with you. Best Regards, Linda Axelson (864)250-0022
Ocktoberfest Convoy from NY I am gong down to Ocktoberfest on Tuesday 9/29. Does anyone plan to drive down that day? Could I tag along?
hotels? Wonder if the CCA is going to post other hotel options on the web site under Accommodations? A bunch of hotels show up on Google Maps but I'm not sure which ones are any good, which ones have safe place to park my car, etc...
