assuming all other maintenance done, how big an issue, if at all, is it if the 1200 mile service is not done until 7-8000 miles? i assume part of the answer would depend on how it was driven, but would still welcome all thoughts. thank you.
Personally I'd still pay someone to do the change at 1200-2000 miles, but that's my personal preference. I wouldn't like the thought of having metal particles roaming around.
Here is why it is mandated at 1200 (you should do it ASAP). It is oil, gearbox, and rear diff fluid changes plus a valvetrain inspection and adjustment if needed. Since the S54 uses shims for keeping the valve clearance in spec, this early look is important. Don't put this off, especially since it is free under warranty.
