I am SO happy with my new BMW and cant believe it took me SO MANY years to give up my Lincoln Town Car. I just love the speed and handling. WHOOSH..... My issue is that I have signed up for the 2 day M school in SC and dont want to embarrass myself by knowing so little. I cant drive a stick (and cant find a car rental facility that has one, nor a friend, nor a driving school) and have no clue how to use the paddles on my BMW with M package. The school advises I will be fine, but dont want to be an albatross. I do want to learn but dont want to hold the class back. Comments from the forum?
The only stick may be the 1M coupe. Everything else are probably DCT. And they are right, you'll be fine.
You will be FINE! I did the 2-day school when my daughter took the 2-day teen school. The finest group of instructors you've ever worked with will guide you at every step. You will be paired with another student. The car will be operable in auto mode only, so you don't need to sweat the shifting. And you will be amazed at what you and your car can do. I can say without exageration that it will change your outlook on road driving for good. ENJOY the school and your new Bimmer!
You will be in a class of maybe 15 people. If like the group I was in, there will be some who have never been to a school like this - just regular street drivers who want to be better street drivers, maybe a little nervous and wondering if they even belong at an event like this one. There are usually some ladies in the group as well. You can pair up with someone you feel comfortable with. The things that they have you do will really not be that different from street driving situations you probably already have experience with. My daughter was very nervous as a brand new driver and the instructor team did a superb job of making her feel at ease and showed her some things which have helped her be a very safe street driver.
I have spoken with Jackie about this and she said that the 2 day school does not pair up the drivers in the same way that the 1 day school does. You get the car to yourself.
So much for my theory that they match folks based on which pairs would look most like Laurel & Hardy, Abbot & Costello, or Fred & Barney... how disappointing!
