Yeah, me too. I am always on the look-out when I am traveling for interesting places that I can check out. Seem to be much more of those kind of places in the western US. I guess is must have a to do with the hot, dry weather.
and the lack of vegetation..... When you travel in the East, you have to remind yourself that the country side was mostly clear cut by WWI. As such, a lot of old things (buildings, dams, etc.) are now hidden by forests.
