I need to change my fuel filter and will have to jack the rear of my car to access the filter. I am planning on jacking on the differential and chocking the wheels but I'm not certain where to put the jack stands; my uncertainty of where to put jack stands applies to front and rear projects; I also would like to know where to jack from the front for oil changes for example. Seems like the internet is full of opinions on this matter.

    Thanks

On my 3-er's, I use the rear axle carrier just in front of the diff, but not the diff itself. I place the rear jack stands on the jack pads.

For the front, I use the faux frame rails for the jacks and place the jack stands on the jack pads.

I use a block of 2x4 or a hockey puck between the jacks and jack stands to protect the body.
