I'm looking at a '95 525i for use as a winter car. The vehicle has 211k miles on it with a recently replaced 5sp clutch. I'm very familiar with e46 common issues but don't have much experience with e34's. Aside from the usual inspection items for buying any used car, what are the key watchouts/problem areas on the e34? I'm fine doing some repairs for the right price but don't want to buy a money pit for use as my winter salt warrior.

    From the www.mye28.com forum:

Look at the bottom of the doors beneath the plastic trim for rust.

The door panel trim has a tendency to come unglued.

The HVAC fan speed switch can be temperamental.

The wiring harness in the trunk gets brittle and breaks wires causing weird issues like doors needing to be locked twice before staying locked.

If the front struts are bad it will ride like an 80s Buick.
