Hello, this is my first post. It's time to have my '99 328i smog tested. This is my first OBDII car.The previous owner had a problem with a blown fuse that had the effect of blocking communication. He ended up taking the car to a mechanic to replace the fuse.It then passed with ease.I studied my Bentley manual and checked the OBD relevant fuses;all are fine. Before I take the car in for testing I would like to confirm "readiness codes";I'm not sure what tool(s) are appropriate. Can anyone steer me the right way? Thanks Frank Swift

You can go to a local auto parts store that has a OBD2 scanner to use for free. Most of these ones will be able to tell you if all the monitors are set and ready so you can get your test done.

Thank you for the tip.Eventually,I'll buy a BMW specific scanner......after I pay the registration and smog test fee.
