    The back story:
Sited a mere 240 miles from Boston in rural New York State - just a four drive - lies a freshly-minted race track. As a track driving enthusiast, opportunities to drive a brand new track come infrequently, and Monticello had eluded us until now.
Most days, Monticello Motor Club operates as a private club for its members who expect regular access to the facility. This left few opportunities for clubs like ours to visit the track. The offered event dates were frighteningly early or late in the season, bringing memories of snow and cancellations. Or the track was offered in lobotomized form to segregate the private members on one half-circuit from the renting club on the other.
But in 2010, Monticello Motor Club and the Boston Chapter crafted a compromise that works. We have full access to the track - all 4.1 miles of it. We have two consecutive days to make the trip worthwhile from Boston. We'll invite the private members to join our experienced solo run groups. And we have a beautiful mid-season date. You can drive out Sunday afternoon and return either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
The course is set on 175 wooded acres of undulating terrain. It incorporates grand European-style corners, over 1.5 miles of straights (some of the longest in North America), and thrilling elevation changes. The passing zones are long and ample. A total of 22 turns include hairpins, increasing radius, and decreasing radius types.
If you have driven our regular tracks, such as New Hampshire Motor Speedway, many times, we urge you to add Monticello to your calendar. A new track presents a novel learning opportunity. When circulating a track you know well, each turn comes without surprise or stimulating intellectual challenge. You know that if you turn in here at this speed, you'll apex properly and track out well. Figuring all this out afresh make you analyze turns you don't know, try different approaches, and see the result. As a driver, what could be more fun?
