My mechanic did it on my E34 535i with the robust M30 engine. I know that he changed the timing chain and the (not sure if this is the correct name for the part) guides. He also changed the head bolts. As usual, a new head gasket set was necessary (blew the original one). The head was also "shaved" at a machine shop. I know you are asking for pics, but nobody has responded to you, so maybe some of this input may help.
