I just had my clutch replaced on a 2001 with 22,00 original miles. The mechanic noted some "burn"marks on the flywheel and suggested that I get a new flywheel. It costs $1,800. +. I have only driven it for about 800 miles so I did not abuse the car. Does anyone have any comments? Thanks, Jim
Are you the original owner? If not, then the PO must have done a lot of high revving, clutch popping burnouts and fried the components early just for you... It sounds like a typical case of riding the clutch or just plain abuse...I believe that burning up the flywheel requires overrevving the engine and then popping the clutch frequently. You're looking at about half the cost of replacing the tranny so it's your call unless you wanna become a competent DIYer overnight...LOL! You could pop over to BF.c and look into the DIY procedure to replace the flywheel just to familiarize yourself with the procedure. Remember that knowlege is power...
