I believe that they use a common reservoir.

At least in my E39 525i, they use a common reservoir, but the reservoir has two chambers. There is a small chamber in the back (towards the firewall), for the clutch. The clutch portion is separated by a wall that goes almost to the top of the container, so will not fill until the brake side is completely full and spills over that wall.

the only way it's really visible to me is if the levels are different between the brake side and the clutch side. otherwise, it's impossible for me to tell.
