The extended warranty (6 year / 100K Miles) will run out in June on my 2007 530xi Sport Wagon, which I bought as a CPO 2 1/2 years ago. I am trying to decide whether to keep it (70,000 miles, excellent condition & love it), or buy a last of the line CPO 2010 535xi Wagon. Question; is it possible to extend the extended warranty past 6 yrs / 100k? With Bmw? At a semi-reasonable price? I would not mind keeping this car, but reading Mike Miller in Roundel, (great column!!), has me worried about having an "out of warranty" newer BMW. The cost differential for a CPO 2010 wagon to keeping my 2007 would be about $20,000. (That would buy lots of maintenanance). Any thoughts, or suggestions? Thanks, Len Atlas Grants Pass, OR
Basically, an extended warranty---if you can get one---is an insurance policy. If you were talking about identical cars, then you're right: $20,000 makes a tidy sum for repairs and maintenance. But the difference between these two cars is quite significant! And I do not believe the 2010 wagon will be "the last of the line"---even in the U.S.
There's lots of folks looking for the 3 and 5 series wagons. I would keep it and see what offers you get as a private sale. If it is were older (i.e., in my price range) and had a stick..................I would be your best new friend.
Does anybody have any good recommendations? I have one for my 05 X5 4.4i which ends this October, but they were a pain to work with. I need to get one for my 05 M3 as well so its a package deal for me if I can find the right one.
