When replacing the Camshaft sprocket bolts (know to loosen ) with updated bolts I found the Exhaust Vanos Geat had 1 tab broken where it engages the Vanos unit. I was very fortunate to discover this because if the piece had fallen into the timing chain area it would have destroyed the engine. After some research I have found that this part fails on the S54 engine and a company in Texas has begun selling the part with strengthened tabs.
To date the most disappointing part of this has been BMW NA Customer Relations response - No consideration at all - Just a script response" sir we cannot entertain any assistance unless the car is at a US BMW dealership " - even after explaining that the closest US dealer is more than 1000 miles away and I just took it out of storage. I purchased the 2006 M Roadster in US in 2009 -Has 45000 miles on it and warranty ran out Nov 2010.
It is disappointing that BMW reacted to my inquiry so "cold" especiallly as we also drive a X3 and a 2007 Z4M coupe.
Does not speak well for the company as for valuing its customers.
Hopefully a more "customer considerate" BMW rep. will read this and contact me
    Thanks

Could you provide the name of the company in TX that has the upgraded exhaust gears?

I doubt you would get a response from BMW through the club's threaded discussions. Try the CCA's ombudsman. The contact is listed in the Roundel.

    Hi.
It is Dr. Vanos (Chris). I am thinking of getting one for my 07M Coupe before track season even though the warranty does not run out until Aug 2011. I don't think I would get much consideration from BMW if it broke during this summer-having trouble getting a Service 1 done at 26000 miles and its 3 1/2 years old.
    All the best
