So I'm looking after my friend's E36 M3 (I have an E46) and it won't start. Here's the deal. When he dropped it off to be shipped it was running fine, but now it won't. When I try, the starter tries to turn it over but it won't catch. I have no idea what the problem is. If anyone has any information that would be helpful I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Bad battery? How long has it been sitting there?

Does the starter turn but the engine does not?
Does the starter turn the engine, but it does not fire the mixture (engine cranks but no popping or trying to start?)
Does it crank over slow or fast?
Does it have an alarm system that you don't know about? Often if the hazards go off when you are trying to start it, you have the alarm going off with no noise.
Did you flood it? If you can hold down the gas pedal for 10 seconds with the key on then crank it for a while, it will go into clear flood mode and turn off the injectors as you crank so you can try to clear it out.
