I have a 2014 328XD that went from the ultimate driving machine to the ultimate smoking machine. Left me on the side of the road. I got no warning only a slight engine miss and smoke coming from under my hood. Damage was semi-extreme; the EGR, intake manifold system, air sensors and throttle body to say the least. Cost was estimated at 4700.00 to repair. Vehicle just 1000 miles out of 100K warrantee. I will say BMW and my local dealer did step up (Somewhat) to help with the cost. Got the bill down to 2300.00. I come to find out that in South Korea and in the EU, the government is taking a look at this. Here in the states only 29 episodes of this failure have been reported. Has anyone heard of this? How is this prevented?
I have heard of this happening, have not seen it in person yet though. BMW has just put out a open recall for this issue here in the states. You should be getting a letter in the mail soon if your car is covered by the recall. They have not published any repair information yet though.
