I recently purchased an '02 325i sedan and had no reason to turn the AC on til yesterday when we had unseasonably warm temps with rain causing the windows to fog. I switched on the AC and there was an intermittent "whine" that could be heard. It sounded as though it may have been the compressor but I am not sure. Has anyone else experienced this?
Check the fan We have a 1999 E46 323i and we have found the fan while whine on occasion, which is a known issue the the E46 models, so I had read. Adjust the speed of the fan when you hear the whine and see if goes away. Ours only whines for the most part when the fan speed is relatively low. Good Luck, Kurt
