E39 Wagon Premature Rear Suspension Failures

    I also have a 2000 528iT w/Sports Package and similarly the odemeter is at 70,000. If your 528iT sits and rides level, then your problem is most likely worn-out rear suspension-carrier bushings. If your 528iT sits or rides with one rear corner noticably lower than the other rear corner, then you have a defective rear auto-leveling air bag. When an air bag goes out, it typically goes all at once versus a tiny leak which over time finally is noticable. When it goes out, one corner will immediately look like it is riding on an axel. My right rear air bag went out at 50,000 and cost about $1,000 to replace.

    Also of special note is that I have installed an OEM CD player where the tape deck originally was; no doubt the only 528iT which has done so in the US.
