What side is up regarding the two interior ventilation microfilters on either side of the engine compartment of the E39? There's an arrow for "AIR" but I don't know if it should be pointing up or down. I have the activated carbon type. Thanks for your help.

Well of course I could do that, but I thought I might get a quick reply today (Sunday) from this forum while I had the hood up.
Arrow indicates the direction of air flow which, on your car, is through the hood vents then into the car's HVAC system. So, for you, that would be "arrow down".
