Anyone know of an upholestry shop on the East Coast that can renew the interior door panels on a 1995 E36 M3 coupe. I have them off but am NOT having fun getting the old vinyl to stick back to the cardboard/fiber backing. If anyone has any experience or can recommend a good place that does quality work for a reasonable price, please let me know. Local BMW shop wants $450 a piece. new door panels can be ordered from bavauto or pelican, but I just checked and they are like $500.00!! I didn't know they were such a costly item. Have you tried s trong adhesive like gorilla glue to reattach the panels together?
I would call a good body shop in your area and see if there is a reputable upholstery shop. Either that or one of those "bmw specialist" dealers close by - they should be able to help. I imagine it wouldn't cost all that much as they are relatively simple....
I am looking for the same info. Not only that I also have a 95 M3. I was thinking of asking my adhesive supplier from our factory. Its tricky stuff, trying to bond vinyl to the fiber board. BTDT - go to your local HomeDepot and get a large bottle of "Gorilla glue". Follow the instructions and commons sense (get creative to apply weight across the surface, etc). Why it works - the glue bubbles and expands like crazy when setting, filling in the nooks and crannies you have no hope of filling by applying any other forms of adhesives. I had used Gorilla on 2 door panels 5+ years ago. Both are still holding. HTH, alex f
I tried 3M Super 77 but it breaks down with the heat. I am going to try the Gorilla Glue like Alex recommended.
I second the body shop idea if gorrila glue doesn't work. Most body shops source this stuff out or do it in house. It won't be cheap but it will be much less than $500 a piece.
I too have a 1995 E36 M3 coupe with the passenger door panel starting to fall off. It's barely held in place with just one of the two screws by the door handle. Any suggestions on how hold the panel in place until the glue dries? I really don't want to have to take the interior of the door off if I don't have to. thanks!
