Hi, I'm going to have to do the headgasket on my 95 525i. I plan to buy a headgasket kit from bavauto, as well as new head bolts. I'm not going to go down the slippery slope of "while you're in there", just want to replace the headgasket (have the head machined and valve seals replaced) and get it back on the road. Here's my question: what special tools (if any) do I need? Anything else I will need? Thanks Mark Chandler, AZ
Here is a great write up on how to replace the gasket and what tools you will need. To answer your question about special tools yes you will to time the engine and vanos system. Not sure what the bavauto head gasket kit comes with but if it's like other kits it should have everything you need. Good luck with the project. http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/tec...7-Head-Gasket/101-Projects-17-Head-Gasket.htm
Thanks. I did see that Pelican article. I'll have to see where I can get that timing tool. If anyone knows, feel free to respond. Mark.
