36th Annual Humpa Picnic Sunday, September 20th J.B. Williams Park, Glastonbury, CT 11 AM to 6 PM THE HUMPA PICNIC began in the early 1960s. This year we will celebrate our 36th picnic, most of them have been at William's Park in Glastonbury. All new members of CVC wonder about the strange name for the Picnic. The name is an attempt to replicate the sound of a German Umpa Band. Originally we called our picnic the Humpa Humpa Te Ta Rae. The Humpa is one of the best events in our annual calendar. Where else can you find the very best food, music, camaraderie and BMWs for an afternoon of fun? The Humpa celebrates both the BMW Marque and Good German food. The Chapter provides the best of wursts, hamburgers. hotdogs, rolls, bread, chips, condiments, beverages including Oktoberfest beer, water and soft drinks, paper goods and serving tools. YOU SUPPLY THE SALADS AND DESSERTS. As such, you must bring a salad or dessert to share. BMW owners show remarkably good taste in cars, but are also awesome cooks. When you call in your reservation, tell us what you want to bring. If it is over supplied we will suggest that you bring something else. So far, we have had a wonderful balance of foods every year. Barbara will make a vat of her famous German Sauerkraut. The Baszturas may bring Spaetzel. Perhaps that exotic vanilla ice cream Cole slaw will also be coming! Definitely not German, but super yummy! We hope Bruce Zepke will bring the German music and Tony's will supply the Oktoberfest libations. Now is the time to make your reservation for the 36th Annual Humpa Picnic. The Humpa Picnic is on Sunday, September 20th rain or shine at the pavilion adjacent to the kitchen and restrooms. The pavilion has an open fireplace if we need it. There are fine walking trails and two ponds shown on a board at the park's main entrance for those who want to hike. Horseshoes and a net are provided as well as a playground for the children. Bring your volley ball or badminton equipment. There will be plenty of pretty cars to ooh and ah over and ample camaraderie in addition to the food and drink. Your CVC will supply door prizes, but you are encouraged to give door prizes from businesses you frequent or from your own business. All contributions will be gratefully received. Your prize will be written up in the Die Zeitung and credit given to you or your business at the event and in the DZ. Please let us know if you plan to supply a prize when you make your reservation. There will be DOOR PRIZES courtesy of New Country BMW, Detail Best, Performance Automotive, Inc. and Your CVC. If you would like to contribute a door prize contact Tim Parker at tparker@ctvalley.org. Your admission will be a $5.00 donation per adult to our CVC Charity, Connecticut ALS, in remembrance of Marshall Wilson. This charity is near and dear to all CVC members who mourn the loss of our friend Marshall Wilson. Donate more if you can.
