The bar crossing the part of my top just over the rear seats has lost all of it's stitching. Since the top is still in excellent shape otherwise, I'd like to find a fabric patch that I can cement/glue in place on each side of the bar. More specifically, I'd be creating a sleeve under the patch to keep the bar in place. I just need to make sure the patch cement/adhesive is strong, and will keep the patch in place, even when the top is folded. I checked with an upholstery shop to see if they could re-stitch the fabric around the bar, but was told no. Hence the patch route. Can anyone help me find a product to allow me to place fabric over this bar and then cement it to the underside of the top on each side? Thanks. Mike 1990 E30 325iC
I was thinking maybe Shoe Goo, but googled this: http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/upholstery-adhesive-215147.html http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Contact_adhesive All that might be a bit much to go to for what sounds like some small pieces, so maybe an upholstery shop that would already have that might be worth a go, unless their quote might be substantially higher.
Thanks! The spray approach is problematic because I truly don't need to do that much, and will sink a bunch of $$ in equipment for such a small job. The 2nd link is very helpful and informative. Thank you again. Mike
