Is anyone planning to go to the Carlisle Import show? It is in Carlisle, PA on May 21-23. I am planning to go for the day on May 22 from State College, PA. Anyone want to caravan down? I hope to leave around 8:15am or so. I prefer the back roads. So I am planning to run down 322 to Rt75, then Rt74 into Carlisle. This route includes two ridge passes on two lane roads and it is just great scenery! Here is the website for the show. http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ce/events/import/ It is usually a good show. However the Audi and Saab guys always put the BMW crowd to shame in terms of the party they throw. I am planning to take the M3. However, bumpers, mirrors, and sunroof are still out getting painted. I should have them back on Wednesday and should have time to get it all put back together.
Drat; I had a feeling you'd say you're going on the 22nd. Of course I have plans on the 22nd! If it would've been the 23rd I would have considered going...
Oh sure likely story! We'll meet up at some show at some point. Just an FYI, Saturday is the day to go to the Carlisle show. On Sunday people start to pack up early.
Grant, I was considering cancelling my plans on Saturday as they aren't all that exciting, but have run into a problem: Google maps, to State College: 5 HOURS, 4 MINUTES Yeah, not gonna happen.
I'm still on the fence though, because I plan on going to Watkins Glen at some point and it's a similar amount of time to get there, so I think this would be appropriate "training" for the long drive... I've never drive more than 3 hours at a time in a single sitting, so I'll have to see how that works out. How far is the show from State College? I definitely can't make it there by 08:15, more like after 10 at the earliest. I've found Google Maps to be a very conservative time estimate. Recently, I took a trip it said was 2 hrs. 45 mins., but I got there half an hour faster than that, not really speeding at all. 140 miles takes me about 2 hours, so I could probably make State College in about 4 hours and some minor change. It all depends on how far the event is from State College and if you're willing to wait up...
Carlisle is South East of State College. Takes about 2hrs to get there from here. It would make more sense to meet there. I don't get many days off, so I need to make the most of it. I plan to leave around 8am. You would just run down 81. Don't worry about it though, it is a fun show, but I don't know if it is worth 10+ hours in a day on the road.
Well... is it worth attending? Is it ~10 hrs. driving good, or should I skip out on it? Perhaps there's something else going on that's worth going to? My plan for Saturday is in no way exciting, so I'm looking for an excuse to bail on it.
I'd have to say, "no." The 2002 crowd used to gather at the spring import/sport/kit/replicar show. The Nittany 'CCA chapter hosted us when we didn't have a large enough group to have a spot on the display field ourselves. It's all about getting the owners together vs. staring under the hood, again! Now, a 10-hour trip to Vintage at the Vineyard? That's a trip worth making! http://vintageatthevineyards.com/
Botond it is a tough call. Some years the event has been great, lots of cars, big BMW turn out etc. Other years it has been disappointing. The local chapter tent is usually nothing to write home about. As you can see no one else from my chapter has responded here, which is why I asked again if anyone was going. Now maybe they are just not on this forum, but you would think at least one other person would be. I guess when it comes down to it, it is worth a couple hours drive. 10 hour drive, I'm not sure I would unless BMWCCA was more involved.
Darn. Looks like I'm stuck with a boring Saturday; was looking forward to a nice drive following an M.
It's not nearly as cool though... I'm stuck with euro bumpers that have huge gaps between them and the bodywork, and there's nothing I could do about it until I spend almost as much as an E30 M3 just to get it fixed!
Yes, but I just recently mounted my rear and haven't had a chance to put on the black trim on the rear. I will snap some pictures on Thursday because it's going to rain nonstop until then.
