Having a 2001 e46, the dealer installed ipod adapter is out of the question. As a short term stop-gap, I purchased a Belkin fm modulator adapter that plugs into the lighter for power.

The problem is that the socket does not supply power to the adapter. I plugged the unit into another car lighter (different manufacturer), and it worked flawlessly. It seems then that this is some sort of plug size/seating issue. Any ideas on what I can do to make this work properly?

    Thanks for any assistance,

You will probably not get satisfactory results from the Belkin device if you live anywhere but remote districts.

You might consider one of the iPod adapters that attach to the CD changer port in the trunk. Dension no longer makes the Ice>Link although you might find one on eBay. There's also an offering from DICE if I recall correctly.
