    Hello,

I just wanted to say hello and mention my appreciation for the club and all the info available here.
This is my first BMW and I'm enjoying the experience.
I purchased it used from Fairfax Honda but the car had an extended warranty and seems fine.

Today I had the trans filter and fluid changed and the Herndon Reston Transmission repair shop in Herndon VA mentioned there was alt of sludge in the magnets and "this is what it looks like when they are going bad or need a 3500 rebuild.
I was going to upload some pictures as it looked to me, a thin layer of sludge on the magnets and dark fluid would be normal for 101k miles.
Any help or comments are appreciated!
    thanks,
    Mike

Just picked the car up and drove it home. Seems to shift a little more forward than before and all seems well.

I also had them change the fuel filter, never was changed in 100k.

Tonight when the traffic dies down i'll drive it on the highway too much traffic now.

I mentioned bringing it back next week to check the level....and they offered,
I could bring it back in a week or two and they would drain it down 4 or 5 qts and refill it with new fluid , (for the cost of the fluid only) making it a little cleaner since there was no getting out the oil in the converter.

Which they only put 7 quarts in today. I thought it took over 12-13 quarts?

    I'll check the manual.
