I have a '76 2002 that I am slowing restoring and have pulled the radiator to replace the fan. The old fan was chewed up and not cooling as well as it should have. When I put on the new fan it hits the bolt on the center of the alternator. I've made sure that I have the small version (360mm) vs the 400 mm fan and it still won't clear. We made a shim to push the fan out slightly, but now it hits the bottom of the radiator. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is the larger fan shaped so that it clears the bolt or could I have a different alternator on that has the bolt too far forward? Do I need to shave off the back of the fan to get it to work?
new fan hits ?alternator I would suspect you have a non-original alternator on the motor, and that needs 'adjusting' ? - not a fault of the fan ? or the mounting of the alternator is wonky Is the belt & pulleys in STRAIGHT alignment on both water pump and alternator ?
