anyone converted an e46 wagon with the 540 v8?
can it be done?
There was a guy on one of these forums that was swapping an E90 M3 V8 into an E46. I think he was trying to create his own GTR.
Not too many modders like that on here, but there have been all kinds of swaps, just depends on how much money & time you want to put into it to address every issue you'd encounter. BMW non-M motors are typically somewhat under-stressed in stock form; You might be able to get similar torque/hp via super or turbo charger kits for less money and/or hassle. One thing's for sure, if you have a V8 out and in hand, you sure want to address every possible issue with it (there are a number of them!) while access is easy before sticking it back in a vehicle.
I found the thread that I was talking about: https://www.bmwcca.org/forum/index....reet-car-build-thread.10444/page-2#post-85516
It looks like he is still working on it:
Anything can be done with enough money but I'm not sure the cost would be worth the reward with this one. I have seen it done but don't have specifics on what was used.
