What am I looking at when I look at the front of my '06 530xi, that is what are the inner lights(?) behind the lenses on both sides? The vehicle has adaptive headlight control and Xenon Adaptive headlignts w/automatic headlight control. Neither high beam nor low beam has any effect on the inner lights(?). Are these lights or sensors? Sorry to sound like a dummy, but some of these things are as difficult to understand as the iDrive. I save the iDrive questions for later. There should probably be a special section just for iDrive. Thanx.

On our 535i the inner lights work when turning around corners at relatively low speeds. They light up the sides of the road where the xenons don't put down any light. The xenons handle low and high beams.

I believe that they also are the "flash" lights when the xenons aren't on.
