After 40K miles, I'd like a softer ride and can't afford to trade up to an 07 or 08....any advice?
I have paid 2000 dollars to replace my 04 X3 original suspension (whole set including stabilizers)with a new set(I chose normal sus) from BMW factory. Now It is much smooooooth, softer and pitchings are all gone, too. Do negotiate with your Bimmer dealer and have your dealer absorb half the cost. If you fail , you will be ended up paying full cost, 4000 dollars. My dealer in Tokyo actually negotiated with BMW of Japan to absorb the cost. So in short, the question is whether BMW of NA can.
Reason why I was successful in cutting it half is many X3 owners throught the world, Europe, Japan and in the U.S. have been critisizing harsh ride of earlier X3 model, so although they do not admit publicly, BMW Munich is quietly recognizing earlier model's poor ride quality. Munich improved X3's ride from its 2006 model.
