When I recently traded in my 2013 BMW Coupe for a 2013 x5, the dealership only gave me 1 (one) key for the x5. ;( My coupe, which was purchased at another dealership years ago, came with two keys and it was ssssooo much more convenient. Is it possible to use the spare key fob that was for my coupe, on my current/new vehicle--the x5 ??? I imagine that I'd have to wipe/erase the programming on the key and associate it with the VIN and codes for the BMW x5, but I don't know if that is possible. Is it possible?
Yes in the aftermarket world it might be possible but will require a key burner and software. I have seen it done with new keys programming to vehicle but never with a key from one car to another. I would image BMW has some kind on one and one software built into itself otherwise people would just be able to reprogram keys and steal cars.
