Can anyone explain the difference between the floating disk brakes found on Canadian M coupes as opposed to the fixed disks on the USA versions? Can one simply order rotors from Canada to make the conversion? ( somehow I'll bet it's not that simple.) Thanks. Joe
You can order Euro floating (front) rotors from numerous online vendors in the US. I just ordered a set from Tischer/MileOne as they had the best price (I could find) at $139.00ea + shipping. P/N: 34112227737 and 34112227738 for left and right front "Motorsport" rotors. (There has always been the internet buzz about floating rotors coming apart after a hard run on the track. Someone's Z3M Roadster had this happen...but? Now it's standard on the new M3's in the US) Benefits: Aluminum center is lighter = less unsprung weight and they run cooler due to the "floating" 2-pc. design.
For a true 2 piece design check out the Performance Friction Direct Drive Rotors. Works of art! Not cheap but extremely cool both literally and figuratively and rebuildable.
