I'm looking to replace the automatic transmission on my 1998 528i. Any leads on a replacement with under 70,000 miles is greatly appreciated. Production date was Dec 1997 so the trany is the 4 speed GM 4L30-E. I live in the Madison, WI area.
Have you looked into getting your transmission rebuilt. Since its a GM most transmission shops can rebuild these pretty cheaply. Might be something to look into.
Thank you Charlson89. Local transmission company quoted $3100 to have my trany rebuild. So decided to keep searching and just located a used trany & TConverter with 77,000 miles from a company in Oklahoma for $860. My local transmission company will install it for about $700. So I'm taking my chances with the used trany for about half the price of rebuilding on my 1998 5 series.
