I am back with BMW after an absence of several years. This is my 3rd one. I am needing some ideas on a problem. My E46, 330i, had the engine management computer, and ignition switch and immobilizer changed from a donor vehicle. It fixed the problem. However the battery in the key is weak, and I have learned that is is going to be complicated to get a couple of new keys. My local dealer will not help at all because the ignition switch is not the original. No luck finding a local locksmith to help. This is a solid vehicle in great shape. Has anyone else ever been in this situation? All responses are appreciated.

Since you changed the EWS to did you change all the locks as well?

All is well now. I found a skilled locksmith that got the car back to
original settings. He used the vehicle's original immobilizer to write news keys. I still had the
original ignition switch so that was re-installed as well.
