A replacement 1998 M Roadster catalytic converter in Seattle is $3500!!!! So now the check engine light goes on often and the fuel economy has gone down. Is my only choice to spend the $3,500?

You can get one from bavauto (heres the link) for a fraction of the price.

What reason are the cats bad did they come apart, melt. Just make sure its them and not O2's causing the issue.

Replaced the O2 sensors already. What is not clear at Bav auto is if the $999 price includes both Cats or is that for one? I will call them up and ask. I guess $2,000 is better than $3,500.

Talks to some other aftermarket brands that are $400 for the pair but required an artist of a welder.

    Thanks

Aftermarket cats a not a long term solution although some people have had success with cats from Magnaflow.
