2010 335d with 64000 miles. SES came on and fear DPF issues. Thinking of replacing DPF with straight pipe or cutting it open and removing guts. Understand the ECU will need to be remapped. Looking for advice?
Before you go and gut the DPF or anything like that. I would get the codes read out to see what is going on. It could be just a loose gas cap. And of course messing with any emission device on a vehicle is big trouble with the EPA and the fines are heavy to.
What are your thoughts on Bavarian Technic Diagnostic Tools? Also, the SES went off next day and came back on this morning. Both times at engine start up in morning. What are typical causes? Fuel cap checked and reseated both time post light. Not loose either time.
Not a bad tool your really don't need a over the top scan tool. Probably not a gas cap issue if it went off then back on.
DPF hasn't really been a problem on these cars. My money would be that the DDE has decided that the SCR system isn't working very effectively. It runs a test after every regen to check; but the system is so complex: 2 NOx sensors, the DEF tank and it's sensors and pumps, the mixer (injector), some exhaust pieces and the SCR catalyst itself, that the test often fails due to tight constraints. If it went back off 400-500 miles later, it passed after the next regen.
