We are considering purchase of an F10 535i xDrive for my wife. I can't find a trailer hitch for this car anywhere on line and our local dealer, while very helpful, has also had no success. We keep a small boat at our vacation house and need to tow it about 50 yards to the ramp where we launch and retrieve it. We currently tow the boat about 7 miles each way to a gas station about 2 times a year, although this trip is not absolutely necessary. The boat and trailer weigh less than 1500 pounds and the tongue weight is less than 100 pounds. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help you might have.
I would think there would be or will be a factory hitch and that would be great. We've also had success here in Austin TX with a local hitch company that makes hitches for anything you bring them. Maybe there is somebody like that wherever you live? Good luck, Terry
Thanks for the reply. After I posted my question, I found the following site which looks promising: http://execuhitch.com/tow-hitches/b...or-xdrive-gt-manual-hidden-trailer-hitch.html
BMW does not support putting hitches on their regular cars in the US, only on the suv's (x3, x5). They do offer hitches in Europe, but some issue with DOT regulations or liability or something makes them afraid of them in the US. The aftermarket will eventually develop something for your car, as it did for mine (e46 wagon). I did my own install and I have posted the install elsewhere on these forum pages. Good luck!
Execuhitch lists one for the F10: http://execuhitch.com/tow-hitches/bmw-5-series-trailer-hitches/ Although I don't have one, I know that several people have used this company for hitches for X1s and E9x cars and seem to like them.
