My windows suddenly stopped working. I check the fuse and swapped out the relay with one that was known to be OK, but these were not the issue. Any suggestions? I'm not very handy with a voltmeter...

There is a circuit breaker below the radio if you see a red outline on it then it has popped press it in and see if the windows work. If they do work then you will need to find out what caused the circuit to break in the first place possible a window motor. If it still doesn't you will need to use a volt meter to start checking power to the window motors.

That did the trick! Thank you for the info... now to see how long before it happens again.

    Was it the circuit breaker?

I have the same problem on my E30 when it's hot out.
Windows don't go down right away.
    Even bypassed the circuit breaker.
After I drive a few miles, windows work.
Now my right speakers don't work.
AC hasn't worked in 6 years. Convertible top leaks.
    I hate this car!

Not to hijack the thread but...
    No. I do hate my E30. :(
    I won't miss it.

I love my ti with all it's problems! :)
Right now I'm waiting on a replacement window mechanism and my fog light blanks popped out.
I will truly miss it and probably have to replace it.
    Next time with an S52. :) :)

The window motors have internal circuit breakers as well you may need new motors, the heat could be popping the internal breakers until they cool off.

I picked up an old breaker on eBay hoping that was the problem. It wasn't.
Neither window will work with the breaker shorted.
It's heat related. Never have the problem in the winter.
But in the winter I have a suspension issue that a previous tech said no problem found.
Nope. No love for this car.

I'm not talking about the circuit breaker in the console of the car. They are inside the window motors themselves and can only be replaced with the motor. Yah e30 do have some weird issues that are very frustrating.

I realize that. But if it was a breaker in the motor it would only be one window. Doubt all 4.
