So despite all reasonable efforts at defensive (but not offensive) parking, I did pick up a door ding on the right rear quarter panel of the e39. It is about midway between the fuel filler door and the top center of the rear wheel well. According to the paintless dent dude, the spot has another sheet of metal just under there, making access from the wheel well impossible without drilling this inner panel at the risk of dimpling the outer panel, when the drill breaks through (he is not sure what the clearance behind there is) . He said the only other way into that area was to drill a hole in the rear door jamb. I am not interested in having a hole drilled into the visible area of the currently pristine rear door jamb. So a question for the assemble experts here: Can this area be accessed from anywhere also that does not involve drilling holes in visible parts of the car? The ding did not break the paint, but it did dimple the metal. Would really like to get this fixed with PDR if we can find a non-destructive way to access.
No clue Chris, but you might try pulling the wheel and any fender liner to get a better look. Trunk liner too? Is there a bodyshop that does most or all the work for any local dealers? Maybe give them a call and ask?
Yes. Find another PDR guy. The local guy here in Memphis (BMW enthusiast and chapter officer) doesn't drill holes in anything to work his magic. http://qualitydentrepair.net/index.php/no-holes-drilled
A good dent guy can reach nearly anything but is also prepared to try a glue-pull on difficult-to-reach spots.
