My 07 Z-4 Coupe (E-86) is equipped with 18" alloy staggered wheels. Have replaced the Run Flats with Continental DWS radials. NO SPARE at this time but do carry a can of tire inflation goop. Long road trips in the future, not feeling comfortable w/o having a compact spare tire in the boot (limited space). No luck locating a business offering an emergency use, compact spare that will fit w/in the 26" circum. in the boot. LeatherZ.com at one time offered a compact spare sized to fit in the Z-4 boot but they have discontinued the product (reportedly an E 46 wheel & Continental tire). Any suggestions on a commercial option, details on an appropriate sized wheel/tire or how to resolve this delima. Thanks
Get better run-flats or trust the goo. (Let's see. . . I have made, what, FOUR cross-country runs with non-run-flat tires? It all comes down to clean living and constant prayer.)
Back in the 60's and 70's I remember seeing small British open sports cars which had a chrome rack mounted on the top of the trunk lid. And on that lid was mounted a full size mounted and ready spare wheel/tire, which served as both a decorative element - adding a certain sporting flare to the car, and the useful function of allowing one to get home in case of a flat. With some very robust struts for the lid plus tire combo, do I smell a what's-old-is-new again business opportunity? Or maybe a continental kit...
An update. After an extensive internet survey of parts stores, I located and ordered an emergency spare tire/wheel from Bavarian Auto Sport. The wheel is a BMW OEM part with an unspecified tire but according to the sales staff, the inflated tire is approx. 25" by 5.5" and will fit in the boot. You can get a reduced price if you do not require a lug wrench or jack. Part # is M3 Spare Kit. What a relief.
