It's on Netflix streaming, so I'm about halfway through now. I started watching at the recommendation of one of the Roundel writers a few months ago. Really, really entertaining and well made movie so far.
Agreed. Best part is that the story is good enough that those non-car people in your household (were not all as lucky as Satch!) will actually like this story. The most fascinating part of the film in my view is the pre-race driver's meetings. If you thought that F1 was a well organized machine which had it all worked out (in the 80's at least), this footage will amaze you as they argue about fundamental track safety as if they have never been to that track before.
An excellent movie. I don't if you have listened to the commentary by the producer and director so I hope I don't spoil anything for you. They said that the original cut of the film was nearly five hours with much more interview footage and more in depth looks at some of the really notable races from Ayrton's career. Obviously much was edited out but in their conversations they did not totally rule out a release of the full uncut version. Tantalizing..
I could sit through the whole thing uncut, though it would piss me off and break my heart all over again...
I know what you mean Satch; every time I watch it I keep hoping for a different ending. That final weekend of his life was one of the strangest ever. There was another death that weekend, and you get the impression it was inevitable that someone else was going to lose their life. You can almost see it in the eyes of the drivers as they walk around the paddock before the final race.
