My son's car quit on him yesterday. He drove to a store with no problems. When he started the car it was idling low. It then quit when he tried to leave the parking lot. We have plenty of spark so I pulled the plugs out and there is no smell of gas. I put my hand on the aft fuel pump and nothing happens when he turns the key on. I read that I should have the relay checked but I can find it. The picture in our book does not show his configuration. He has a 1986 535i. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Rich
Take look here as there is a picture of an '86 535i relays with them highlighted. I would replace the pump AND main relay if you haven't done so. I have also read that the pump only runs when the engine is cranking or running. Anyway, there is a bunch of information on this website for our cars! Good Luck!
