Anyone have experience with snow tires--real snow in upstate ny--for the '08 M3. 19" wheels in summer, can I keep them?

The car will go in the snow with snow tires, ground clearence is your biggest issue. If the car bottoms out two things will happen. You will lose traction and damage the very expensive lightweight panels that are under the car. The undertrays on these M cars now are made of almost a cardboard feeling material only it's not effected by water. If you hit these on anything they will break and be expensive to fix.

Then he shall stay garaged for another season---definitely don't want those costly repairs...

I ran one winter with an E46 M3 on Blizzak LM25s and was amazed at how competent the car was. The acceleration and traction was excellent. Would recommend driving the car, but as noted on the real deep snows leaving it warmly tucked in the garage. Here is a photo..
