Just thought I'd pass this on. I recently upgraded to a HTC Hero Android phone on the Sprint network. BMWUSA's website said that it does not work on our January 2006 built 750Li. But it works perfectly, paired immediately, and uploaded and displayed all of contacts.

My MOTO Droid with VZW connects also. Address book transferred fine. Every once in a while there is a buzzing noise on calls though.

Ditto for the Motorola Backflip. It connected to my 330Ci with no issues whatsoever.

A note of caution on "not compatible" phones: Keep an eye out for odd behavior over time. Just because a phone pairs, connects, shares contacts and otherwise seems OK does not mean the car is entirely happy with it.

Last week I overhead a conversation on this subject between an SA and a woman whose 7er's iDrive had (for want of details) basically "gone flaky." Turned out she had paired a phone not on the approved list, and over not-very-much time the phone corrupted the car. To cure it they ended up having to delete all traces of the phone from her car's memory and re-flash the iDrive computer. I gathered they covered it under warranty but I wouldn't be shocked if some tightwads tried to hide behind the "approved" list. (I spoke with the SA after the woman left, since I was curious whether my own phone was listed.)

I only have this one bit of anecdotal evidence but the SA mentioned they've "seen this before," noting that LG phones (except those on the list) seemed especially problematic. Although I expect many unapproved phones are harmless I'd say it's worth keeping in mind.

My Moto Droid went in fairly seamlessly during the New Car Delivery orientation with my
"specialist" -says so on her business card- from my BMW Center. A few days later, my
Contact List/Address book seemed to have been "rearranged" by the system. It changed the way it presented the Contact List; instead of showing the list with the first letter of each contact's name (easier for me) it now defaults to the last entry word for that person. So if I list Smith's Roofing Mobile, it'll put that in the "M's" instead of the "S." Generally it works quite well- I just need to fine tune how I enter my list names.

    Pairing phones

It really depends on which phone and which BMW. Basically, to pair, you first need to find how to do 2 things. 1) How to get to the phone Bluetooth Settings menu. In that section there will be "Scan for Devices" of something like that. 2) How to get to the BMW Bluetooth menu. Somewhere in the menu will be a "Pairing" Option.

So basically, you sit in the car and turn the key to ON. (You don't have to start it, just get it to where you can access the BMW Bluetooth menu.) Then on the phone, hit "Scan for Devices", then on the car start the "Pairing" command. Within 5 to 15 seconds, the phone should list the car as found. The way it lists it will be some portion of the VIN of the car. For example, it may say BMW12345, where 12345 are the last 5 digits from the car VIN. Anyway, just accept that device and you should be paired.

In some cases, you need to enter a 4 digit code to accept the pairing. That code is almost always 0000. If you are asked for the 4 digits, enter 4 zeros. HTC phones understand this and try 0000 automatically, so in most cases anymore you don't even need to enter the code. If 0000 doesn't work, get the BMW owners manual booklet, find the one separate piece of paper that lists the Bluetooh code for your specific car, and enter it when asked.

At that point the phone will send the contact list to the BMW to make selecting a number by the person's name easier. Once that is done (can take a few minutes if you have a lot of contacts), then you are all set.

Back out of the phone menu to the regular dialing screen. Turn off the car.

The next time you turn on the car, the contacts will re-synch, then calls you make from the BMW screen will use your phone.

    droid pairing

My Motorola Droid paired easily and instantly with my 06 330i. I really love the phone, and REALLY love the car. Best of the 5 bimmers I have owned,

    HTC EVO 4G Success

I continue to have success pairing Bluetooth phones to my (now) old 2006 750Li. First, in June my HTC Hero had a major OS upgrade for 2.1, and that worked perfectly.

Recently, I upgraded to an HTC EVO 4G, and once again, it paired immediately and everything seems to be working as expected.

Strange, my Epic 4G will pair and make calls but gets frozen on "Downloading phone book". All calls have to be manually entered via the button remote in the dash or through the phone.

    Does anybody have any ideas?

Edit: the phone is Bluetooth 3.0 not 2.1 - I'd love to find an app to get it to "emulate" 2.1

Solid assistance will be difficult to find...

In my limited experience, getting any solid help on figuring out bluetooth (in)-compatibility issues is all but impossible. As you have already found out, bluetooth is not universal. Even if you successfully pair a phone with your car, you may begin to see strange "gremlins" surfacing days, weeks or even months later.

    My suggestions:

1-Go to your service provider site and see it they have some sort of bulletin-board/blog/electronic help-desk forum with a thread on your particular phone. You may not be the first one to encounter this issue, and someone may have found a solution/work-a-round.

2-Go to the phone manufacturer's site and try the same thing there.

Be aware, however, that there may be NO solution to your problem that you find acceptable. My daughter has a 2008 Nissan Altima with NAV, and she has never been able to use her DROID successfully....No issue with pairing, but the sound quality is horrible. She finally gave up, and now uses a bluetooth headset (earpiece).

    Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback - I won't waste more time trying to fix it. Right now I can make and receive calls even though I have to either dial on the phone or manually. Price of progress I suppose is breaking features. ;)
